Created for Kim Demarco's New York, New Yorker class during my junior year of RISD. Inspired by Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery, I created a piece that endeavors to capture the unsettling atmosphere of the story and imply the imagery of grave stones with the paper slips.

Sketches for the assignment. From the start I was interested in the motif of the slips of paper and the repeating shapes to show that the lottery was an annual tradition.
